Area 17 Newsletter

Volume 1, Issue 1, September 2006

Welcome to Area 17, a new start and a new beginning.  Our boundaries have changed and we’re off to a brand new start.    I hope you had a great summer and are back in the swing of a new school year.  I know that many of you are hard at work welcoming teachers and students, planning your programs, approving your fundraisers and budget and setting goals.

I hope many of you attended Texas PTA’s Summer Leadership Seminar in July.  They had a record attendance and the training available was awesome.  We had a number of local units benefit from the grant money that Texas PTA received from the Greater Texas Foundation.  If you were not able to take advantage of the training, please look to your Council for Officer’s and Chairman’s Training.  This would be a great opportunity to get some training close to home.  Also, don’t forget Leadership Orientation Training for your new board members.  Remember according to your bylaws, all officers must be a graduate of this course.  I encourage you to have your chairmen take it, also.  Look for additional training opportunities to come from your Council and/or posted to this site.  If you are a local not in a council, you are welcome to all training offered.  Please invite yourself.

There are many great resources available to you as a member, as well as a PTA board member.  Take advantage and pass on the information to your PTA.  Remember, knowledge is power, and the more power you, as a PTA, have the stronger you will become.   Visit the Texas PTA,
www.txpta.org, and National PTA, www.pta.org, websites for a wealth of information.

If you have any questions, I have included the email address of Area 17 board.  Our job is support for councils and local PTAs.

Good Luck to a Great Start,

Renee Walker, Area 17 President
