Convocation Speech
August 15, 2008
Thank You!
It’s an
honor to speak with you this morning as a representative of PTA in BISD.
When I stop
and look at all of you representing faculty and staff, it is exciting to know
that in just a couple of years, I will be setting amongst you all with my
degree.
The
Birdville Council of PTAs will celebrate our Founders Day dinner and honor student’s
reflection entries on Feb. 19th. This is a great event honoring the
exceptional talent of our students.
Today PTA is
the largest child advocacy group not only in the State of Texas but, throughout
the US with units in other countries such a Guam.
The Council
role here in BISD is to support all 31 local units and the Shannon Learning
Center. We provide training, mentoring and resource as well as recognition for
all they do.
Two of our
district wide programs that has grown tremendously over the years are the CC
and SD. These programs provide free clothes, shoes and school supplies to the
disadvantaged children in BISD. You can help---How—when you participate in the
payroll deduction program for CC and SD. Which enables us to give as much as we
can, 98% minimum of your donation goes directly to the children.
Become a
part of PTA as a member at your local unit on campus, and help us continue the
relationship between parents and the schools. Scholarships are offered through
TXPTA for teachers and administration for continuing education if you are a
member.
In closing,
if you need anything please contact any of the PTA and we will do our best to
serve you.
From a
parents perspective we are proud to have you as a BISD employee being a part of
the education of our students.
I can’t wait
to be on the other side where you are now making a difference.
Thank you
and have a great year!
